SAVANNAH, GA – Shortly after submitting her resume for a marketing analyst position at a large retail company, recent college graduate Nora Grundleson sat eagerly at her computer, waiting for a prompt response from the hiring manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGee, I can\u2019t wait for them to respond,\u201d Grundleson said to herself. \u201cIf they\u2019re good at their jobs, they\u2019ll email me back any second now to let me know whether they\u2019d like to interview me or if they\u2019ve filled the position. I trust them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the minutes passed, Grundleson couldn\u2019t help but think of a conversation she had with a friend who had graduated a few years earlier, in which the friend warned her about how brutal the job market is and suggested she give up hope of ever getting a job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As doubt began to creep in, Grundleson naively dismissed her friend\u2019s warnings as nonsense and hit refresh on her inbox one more time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow could they not reach out?\u201d she said, trying to talk herself out of spiraling. \u201cI\u2019m cute, funny, and super unique. I just hope the boss likes horses and scrapbooking as much as I do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
