In Tense Salary Negotiation, Boss Carefully Slips Really Cool Drawing To Employee

CHICAGO, IL – During a tense salary negotiation with up-and-coming Managing Director Margaret Hansen, CEO Richard Parker hastily scribbled something on a piece of paper before carefully sliding it across the desk.

Expecting to see a generous offer, Hansen was confused yet slightly amused when she flipped the paper over and found a really cool picture of a dog in sunglasses surfing.

According to other employees, this was a tactic Parker frequently used to test his staff’s commitment to the job.

“He’s mysterious like that,” one of Hansen’s coworkers told her after the meeting. “If you seem too confused or disappointed, he’ll think you’re shallow and only interested in money. If you seem too happy, he’ll know you’re not serious about the job and won’t give you the raise. You’ve got to really analyze what the drawing means and how it applies to your role.”

At press time, Parker insisted that there was no psychological game involved and that he was only gauging his employees’ reactions to gain confidence in the hope of quitting to become a cartoonist.
