Chris Van Hollen Speed Runs Duolingo In Preparation For Visit To El Salvador

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In an act of protest against the Trump administration and desperate plea for attention, Senator Chris van Hollen announced Tuesday that he is planning to visit El Salvador to personally see out the return of a wrongfully deported Maryland man.

In preparation for his trip, Van Hollen was seen huddled over his phone in the back of the Senate chamber speed speed-running through Duolingo to brush up on his Spanish

“Si, Domingo es mañana. La camisa roja cuesta diez pesos. Donde esta la biblioteca?” the Maryland senator was heard repeating into his phone.

In an interview with CNN later that afternoon, Van Hollen stated that he had already gotten through lessons one and two and felt pretty good about greetings and how to buy articles of clothing. He then shared his plans to finish lessons three and four by midnight so he could properly order a latte and make his way around town.

At press time, Van Hollen was holding up a line at a Mexican food truck as he tried to remember how to say, “I’ll have two tacos please.”
