Mattel Introduces KKKanye Doll to Expand Barbie Collection
EL SEGUNDO, CA - On Friday, Mattel released a new doll in their hit line of Barbie toys modeled after billionaire rapper and Holocaust denier: KKKanye.
KKKanye comes after the popular toy brand saw a massive resurgence following the box office success of the Barbie movie and aims to diversify the brand with more black representation.
"KKKanye will be a great new addition to the Barbie universe," Mattel President Steve Totzke said. "While he may be controversial, he brings a conspiratorial, unhinged vibe to Barbie-land."
A new ad highlighting KKKanye’s backstory explained that Ken became friends with the embattled celebrity at a house party in Malibu and quickly became a fan of his unfiltered, non-politically correct talk and party-loving nature. However, a rift between Barbie and Ken began to surface when Barbie’s friends got scared of being around KKKanye and started to ostracize her. This resulted in a KKKanye becoming a misunderstood villain in the Barbie universe and forced Ken to choose between his budding new friendship and his one true love.
The doll even comes with pre-programmed sayings like "It's the Jews' fault!", "Call my agent, dawg," and "Kim stole my semen!"
While critics of the doll ask why Mattel couldn't have used a less controversial black figure, Totzke defended the decision by saying, "There's just something magnetic about KKKanye. His views may be a bit out there, but his personality is larger than life."
At press time, Mattel announced that they were considering adding a KKKanye-themed accessory pack, complete with a tiny microphone, a swastika armband, and different colored KKK robes. The company believes that despite the controversy, KKKanye will be a hit among collectors and fans looking for a more edgy addition to their Barbie universe.
